The Pawfect Gift?
The “ber” months are here! And we all know how Filipinos start their holiday preparations as early as September.
Sales, discounts, decorations... and, of course, gifts!
Speaking of gifts, let’s talk about something important. We know how tempting it can be to surprise an animal lover with a pet of their very own. But before bringing home a new pet companion, we need to think about both the well-being of the animal and the readiness of the future owner.
A pet is not just a present. They are a long-term commitment that requires time, patience, space, and a budget for food, veterinary care, grooming, training, and other everyday needs.
Even if someone loves animals, it does not always mean they are ready to care for one. Their lifestyle, living arrangements, family members, existing pets, and financial capacity all matter.
That is why pets should never be given as a complete surprise. Always better to have an honest conversation first with recipient.
Ask if they are ready
What kind of pet would suit their lifestyle
Whether everyone in their household is on board.
Better yet, make them part of the process! You can even visit a shelter or responsible rescue organization together and let them meet animals whose personalities may be a good match.
If the timing is not right, there are still plenty of meaningful gifts for animal lovers. You can sponsor a rescued animal in their name, donate to a shelter, or give them something special for the pet they already love.
Pets can bring so much joy to our lives, but they deserve more than a festive moment.
They deserve a home that is prepared to love and care for them long after the holidays are over.
